Kobal Wine Estate

The Kobal Wines estate brings wines from selected vineyards in Štajerska, Slovenia, mostly from the steep Haloz mountains, onto the wine map. The wines are characterful, with twenty-four hours or more of cold maceration emphasising varietality, freshness and the distinctive Styrian fingerprint of nature or terroir.

Here are prime vineyard sites that have been famous for centuries, from the Romans, the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and the present day. The soil is rich in lapis, the vines are on average over thirty-five years old, their deep roots absorb and then combine all the rich minerality of the soil into the grapes. This is reflected in the fullness and finesse of the wines.

In the processing of the grapes, cold maceration plays a key role in the transfer of aromatic and mineral substances into the wine. The wines are further enriched by the different maturation methods and approaches, from the classic maturation in stainless steel containers to maturation in wood barrels, usually oak, and always 100% on fine lees using the well-known bâtonnage process.

The wines are created in the spirit that wine, when enjoyed responsibly, can be one of life’s noblest spices.
