Edi Simčič
Goriška Brda, a place where the soft northern mediterranean and the southern alps mix. A place where the soil is rich in salts and minerals. Brda is written for white wines: exotic mediterranean, mineral, full-bodied and fresh at the same time, which can age for longer periods, up to five or six years. They trust in rebula and its potential. Rebula is a kind of pride, an identity. Red? They have believed in them for a long time. They demand maturity, longevity. The vineyards of Brda can do it.
The Simčič family cultivates some 13 hectares of vineyards, bottling some 65 000 bottles of wine every year.
Today, the winery and the Edi Simčič brand are run by his son Aleks, and his sons Jure and Jakob are increasingly taking over the reins.
The history of Edi Simčič wines dates back to 1990, when the first bottles were filled. And before that? Edi Simčič was in charge of the technical part of viticulture at the Vipolže cooperative, while Aleks studied and completed his degree in mechanical engineering. As they had several vineyards at home in very favourable locations, the idea of their own wine brand was already growing during their studies, and Edi and Aleks were starting their first experiments in the cellar and learning the art of winemaking. From the initial cellar space in an apartment house, today one of the most modern wine cellars in the Goriška brda region has grown.
