Estate Istenič is located in Stara vas in Bizeljsko, right on the Croatian border, idyllically set among the hills with sun-drenched vineyards.

Janez Istenič’s sparkling wine production broke new ground in the field of privacy, because at that time all the major wineries were socially owned and only one of them produced classic sparkling wine. He was therefore the first private entrepreneur in Slovenia and in the then Federal State of Yugoslavia to start producing sparkling wine using the classical method, and later, together with his family, he developed the business into a successful form of wine tourism.

They use the most modern equipment to ensure that only the highest quality single-fermented wine is produced and that it is aged slowly in the bottle, producing fine and long-lasting bubbles. One of the characteristics of the winery is its focus on the use of the old, traditional rumeni plavec grape variety.
