The smallest wine-growing region, Posavje, which takes its name from the Sava river, is divided into three wine-growing districts: the Dolenjska, Bizeljsko-Sremič and Bela krajina. It is located in the south-east of Slovenia and has the smallest market share but a large number of producers. Its characteristic feature is its brick houses. It is a medium-hilly area, interspersed with narrow valleys and steep banks. The vineyards are fragmented. Light white and red wines predominate. The most prominent of these is cviček, which has a special place in the wine law. Red varieties are dominated by modra frankinja and žametna črnina, while white varieties are dominated by welschriesling and kraljevina.
